This is the silage pit and moist feed pits at Langdale Farm. The silage pit holds 70 acres of cut grass which we cut, rake and chop three times during the summer months. You might be lucky enough to experience silage making when you are staying in the cottage. It is always a challenging and hectic time with all hands needed on deck and a bit of good luck in the weather department! The feed pits which are pictured on the left, hold 150 tonne each of moist feed. The molasses tank on the right of the picture holds around 14 tonne. All the ingredients are put into the Hi-Spec feeder wagon which is pictured behind the tractor. This chops and mixes the feed a bit like a food mixer. It is then driven to the sheds and discharged into the troughs.
