When the young stock becomes age and size for being put in calf, they are inseminated. This picture shows the in-calf heifers housed in a seperated cubicle shed. Every bed on our farm has a rubber mat on it which makes it softer and warmer for the cow to lye on. There are also dry cows in this shed. These are mature cows which are pregnant but have not yet had their calves. They have a period of a least 8 weeks prior to calving where they do not produce milk.
