Downanhill Cottage

Homepage

The following images will hopefully provide you with a small insight into what we have to offer you. We have included some of the views around the cottage along with internal photos.

Ailsa Craig

Ailsa Craig

This is a view of Ailsa Craig, with the Isle of Arran and Mull of Kintyre in the background. The livingroom and all bedrooms look onto this view with the family room having the best view of all. Although it is impossible for anyone to stay on the rock, we look directly onto it and that view is one which our guests and ourselves see every day. This was the main reason for calling our website Ailsa Craig Holidays. In the next few pages, we hope to show you what we have to offer in terms of accommodation. However, we feel that your stay with us can be so much more. We enjoy showing you our farm and what we do and have made many friends over the years. In the photo gallery we have tried to tell the story of a calf being born on our farm through to her milking. We are always asked lots of questions from guests about the process and felt that it would be nice to explain a little about it in pictures. When you stay with us, it tends only to be for a short snapshot of time and you do not always see the full picture. This way you can see winter time if you stay in summer.

View from brae

This is the view from the field directly behind the cottage looking towards the village of Ballantrae and the South Ayrshire coast beyond.

cows coming for milking

Our cows coming for milking

The cows are grazing in the fields around the cottage and this is them coming for milking. Our farm is in the background with Ballantrae beyond and the cottage in the foreground. The cows walk down a track made especially for them at the side of the road which means that you may be coming back to the cottage and the cows are on the other side of the fence going for milking.

Sunset view of Ailsa Craig and Arran

A view of a beautiful sunset followed by comments from people who have visited Downanhill Cottage.

The best advertisement for any cottage are the comments which are received from guests who have stayed there. We have quoted several from our visitors book which we have received over the years:

"thanks for a wonderful, peaceful holiday. We saw an amazing variety of wildlife in what are truly beautiful surroundings. Don't miss the hares on the hill or the grey seals on the shore."

"Stop the World, we want to get off - right here! amongst the hares and buzzards in the peace and tranquility of this wonderful cottage."

"Who cares about the weather when there's a place like this to stay".

"This is a lovely cottage and has wonderful views. The boys loved the games room in the evenings and I enjoyed the peace."

"....highlights have been the chickens and the pool table. Keep an eye out for the little deer. The children are already asking when we can come back again so please hang on to the hens."

"It's the best the place yet. It was really good when we saw the calf being born and that our dad helped with it. We can't wait to come back".

"We had a fantastic time. It was everything we hoped for and more. You can keep your Alton Towers and Disneylands, this has been one of the best family holidays we have had. It was both relaxing when we wanted and fun helping on the farm."

"This cottage is truly unbelievable. It feels like I have become a part of it. It is such a unique and tranquil place that it is hard to believe that such a place exists in todays hustle and busy world. Thank you for allowing us to remember what the countryside has to offer."

Guests Poem

We've often spent our holidays in the area around here,
Colmonell, Girvan, Ballantrae to us, are very dear,
But to find the ideal cottage has been our foremost wish,
And now, it seems, we've found it - and near to where we fish!
We shall have to come again - that is oh so clear,
Infact, we have it all in hand, we're booking for next year!
